Could Viscous's lore be a nod to Ecco the Dolphin?

So this might be a bit of a reach, but I had a thought last night. Viscous is said to be fighting in the ritual to stop an enemy of ocean denizens called The Adversary. To my knowledge we know nothing else about what it is other than it's name.

But I couldn't help but feel like it sounded familiar, and then I remembered the Dreamcast/PS2 game Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future. In Ecco, you fight an enemy The Foe (which are aliens) to save your fellow ocean dwellers.

Anyway, that's basically as far as the comparison goes, but it did make me wonder if it could be a reference to the game.
