Travel during CNY: #1 Hong Kong

Discussion

Booked tickets before I realized we would be arriving on the 17th! Yikes! But here's the real scoop about our trip in the midst of CNY. Part 1 Hong Kong: Flight from London was pretty full but the airport wasn't. Neither was the airport train or the metro. The nice lady at the train tickets counter gave us a gift and suggested we go to look at the fireworks but we were too tired and took a nap instead. In the evening streets in Sheung Wan were empty, and most shops closed. Most non-Chinese restaurants were open but not full at all. We had a fabulous meal (at Francis on Peel Street in case anyone's interested). Next day the tram to the peak. Wow! Packed out but excellent crowd control and seamless if a wait (most people were interested in the mall at the top so we had a nice walk around and down almost to ourselves). Then Kowloon, no more busy than when I was there last time, people out enjoying the sun at new the harbor front park. Got the normal ferry back but big queues for the Starr ferry in the opposite direction. Final day did the Dragon's back hike. Bus out relatively empty, hike not too busy. All in all much ado about nothing (and Hong Kong was great). Train to Airport and airport itself not busy at all. Plane to Xi'an full.
