Title: Internship mentor changed behavior after stipend discussion — not sure how to handle this professionally
Hi everyone, I need some outside perspective.
I’m a UI/UX design intern at a small startup (remote internship, 6 months). The first month is probation with a ₹7,000 stipend, as mentioned in my enrollment letter.
During my first month:
My mentor changed project topics 3–4 times without completing one.
He wasn’t consistently available for reviews.
I used to message him daily (morning/evening) to inform him about submissions.
On days when no tasks were assigned, I still followed up asking if there was anything to work on.
Last Friday, I submitted 3 sitemaps with references and wireframes and asked if I should continue further.
He told me to “work slowly, we have months to build this.”
That same day (it was exactly one month completed), I shared my bank details for stipend processing since he had never asked for them.
After that, things changed.
That evening, he suddenly messaged saying he needs a full website with wireframes and sitemap within 1 day. On Monday, during a 1-hour meeting, he repeated this demand very aggressively and was shouting, even though I showed him all the work I’ve done.
It has now been over a month and I still haven’t been paid.
I’m confused because:
The expectations suddenly changed.
The urgency contradicts what I was told earlier.
The behavior shift happened right after I shared bank details.
There was no formal performance warning before this.
I want to handle this professionally.
How should I approach:
Clarifying timeline expectations?
Asking about pending stipend?
Deciding whether to continue or quietly exit?
Would really appreciate practical advice.
