Its been 25 years, saw her again last Saturday for the first time in years! She still takes my breath away!
I am happily married to an incredible woman, and we have built a beautiful life together with our two wonderful daughters. I love my wife deeply, and I am grateful for the life we’ve created.
Last Saturday, though, something unexpected happened. I attended a friend’s mom’s funeral over Zoom, and I saw her — a woman I hadn’t seen in years. The moment she appeared on the screen, I felt everything shift. I couldn’t look away. All the emotions I carried for her 25 years ago came rushing back as if no time had passed.
When we were young — late teens — she was my world. When she ended things, it devastated me. She married a few years later. We shared mutual friends, so I would see her occasionally, but I never truly moved past her. I stayed single for nearly a decade because no one ever came close. The pain lingered so deeply that I eventually numbed it in unhealthy ways.
About fifteen years ago, when she was going through difficulties in her marriage, she reached out to me. We talked. I would have done anything for her then — I even asked her to run away with me. I would have followed her anywhere.
Fast forward to last Saturday — I logged into the funeral with no expectations. And there she was. She looked even more radiant than I remembered. In that brief 45 minutes, it felt like my world tilted. I realized that, somewhere inside me, the love I had for her never truly left.
I want to reach out to her, but I won’t. I would never do anything to hurt my wife or my daughters. They are my responsibility and my heart.
Still, I feel shaken. It’s not nostalgia. It’s not just memory. It feels like something unfinished — a deep, genuine love that never fully found closure. And that realization has left me heartbroken in a way I didn’t expect.
