This math is crazy
I'm four trips into Vegas after going for the first time last year. Since I live in Seattle, where there are multiple actually decent casinos ~45 min from me, I've had to do some thinking about the value-add of going to Vegas.
For me, it's actually much less about the gambling and much more about kicking in a resort for the weekend. Where I can grab a nice meal, grab a drink, go see a show, relax at the spa, chill by the pool, all while being able to just pop up and down to/from my room with ease. Vegas, obviously, offers this in spades. But, the casinos by me in WA are also resorts.
Then I realized how insanely cheaper it is to literally go to Vegas for a weekend vs even just a one night staycation near home (factoring out gambling since play would be the same either way):
One night Muckleshoot/Tulalip/Snoqualmie Casio staycation:
- Hotel: $175 (min, and they generally don't do low level roller comps around here)
- Steak dinner: $100
- Drinks: $50
- Breakfast/Lunch next day: $25
One Night Total: $355
The Fri-Sun Vegas weekend I just did at Luxor:
- Light rail to/from airport: $5
- Flight: $30 RT (Frontier Go Wild pass, which has already paid for itself)
- Uber: $8
- Hotel (2 nights): $90 (MGM comps)
- Steak dinner: $0 (comped)
- All other food: $25 (a little comps left over + Vegas portions = major leftovers)
- Drinks: $0
Weekend Total: $158
Half as much. Literally half the cost for twice as long.
