Tier1 Water Softener Alternative?

Has anyone heard reviews and have experience with the Tier1 Water Softener Alternative? My water is under 15 grains per gallon I believe, still waiting for mail test results, and do to my town regulations and restrictions, even though I'm on town water and sewer, I was considering alternatives for a whole home softener system.

I was a little concerned with the "capable of 8 gpm flow rate for 600,000 gallons or 5-6 years"
