Ratio question

Hi! I am confused. I thought I was feeding my starter a 1:1:1 ratio by discarding 60 g starter, adding 60 g flour, and adding 60 g water. I have seen some people saying keep 60 g starter and discard the rest, add 60 g flour to the 60 g of starter, and add 60 g of water. Which is correct? Discard 60 g or keep 60 g?
