N47 won't rev above 2.7k rpm?

Hi everyone. I've noticed something lately on my E90 and I'm unsure if that's something to be concerned about. A family member had to drive it the other day and I had failed to mention that sometimes the car jitters when setting off in 1st but that is due to a very worn out floating flywheel. I'm used to driving it this way, not really stressing the car too much because I am currently not able to get it fixed. But said family member got really iritated after a long drive and when it was parked in neutral gave it a bit of a stronger stomp and the engine wouldn't go above 2700 rpm. Now I can't proove that it did go above before the drive but it's just something that's been bothering me. I've tried to look online but there is absolutely no information on the N47 having a soft limiter of sorts. Also car was not in limp when this happened. Anyone have the vaguest idea what this might be?
