I'm trying to invert colors on a design.

I'm trying to invert colors on a design. letters that are black with gold edging on some parts to letters that are gold with black edging on some parts. I can't just flood fill the black gold and the gold black because some parts don't fill all the way due to subtle shading. is there any way to do that? Am I missing something obvious?
