Went on a date recently with a guy I had matched with online and had been texting for a bit. We didn’t text everyday but when we did it was meaningful. We decided to meet up for a dinner date and he brought me flowers. You would think the evening was off to a good start right. This is where my confusion begins. While the evening was pleasant enough, he made critical comments at times - not overtly red flag, but enough to feel unsettled. We were talking about where we went to college, and I mentioned a lower ranked state university while he went somewhere more ivy-tier, and he made a face. I know I could have done better, but back then I couldn’t afford it. Then we moved on to talk about jobs we had right out of college, and he said I should have worked at a better place back then. I didn’t know what to say as back then I took what I could get, but work a really good job now. Thought that was the end of awkwardness and we moved on to other things, but then he seemed critical that I buy clothes and shoes off amazon sometimes. While it wasn’t overt, he kept dropping hints he could afford a lot more and much better things and earned much more than me. I started getting the feeling he wasn’t into me and that we belonged to different worlds. I offered to split the check towards the end of dinner, but he waived it off and insisted on paying fully and this was at a very upscale place. Thought that was the end of that and he was being polite, but he insisted on dropping me home and held my hand throughout - didn’t let go for even a second. Before dropping me off he said he wanted to see me again and made plans, but I’m getting mixed signals from this. I have hit pause on this and have told him I’m traveling. Is he actually into me ? Why would anyone act this way ?
