Should I match with my tenant on Hinge?
I’m a 29M who owns a single apartment that I currently rent out while living with family. The place is managed by a property manager and I’ve never met the tenant.
Today I came across a Hinge profile I was about to like, then realised it’s my tenant. There’s a photo clearly taken inside my apartment and the name/details line up. Before I knew who it was, I was genuinely interested.
Complication: her profile says she has a cat and there’s a scratcher visible in the photo. She hasn’t applied for pet approval, and a recent inspection report suggests pet items were removed beforehand. In my area she needs permission, but I wouldn’t have grounds to refuse and I’m personally fine with the cat and don’t want her to have to keep hiding it.
So now I’m unsure. Is matching inappropriate because of the landlord/tenant dynamic, even though I don’t manage the property directly? And separately, how would you handle the pet situation without it seeming like you’re monitoring her dating profile?
