34 year old Pokémon fan looking for ways to get into Gen 2-10 mon.

Ok so this may be a bit of a strange prompt but, I became a Pokémon fan in the 90s when I was just a kid. I was into trading cards, the cartoon but mostly the video games. I have a certain fondness for generation 1 Pokémon and am a huge fan of leaf green and fire red version of the gba games because of this.

My issue is that I have replayed those 2 versions so many times and even beyond that, I want to enjoy other games and even the newer cards as much as I do for gen 1.

My question is, what is the best way of getting to know these Pokémon? Is it through playing the games in a specific manner like in sequential order or do I need to watch the cartoons. I want to enjoy all that it has to offer but I haven’t connected to any of the newer generations.

To be more specific to my concerns, I understand the depth behind the Pokémon in gen 1 such as Mewtwo being a legendary or my own personal reference of Dragonite being one of my favorites because it was hard to evolve in the gba games after buying a Dratini. Those little things make the Pokémon special to me so I am wondering on how to get better acquainted with them. I want to “feel” what makes rayquaza or a metagross so cool.
