[POEM] You are everywhere
You are everywhere —
in the songs I skip too fast,
in the street I cross without looking,
in the way my hands reach for a phone
that no longer lights up with you.
I miss you
in soft, dangerous ways —
like touching a bruise
just to remember it’s there.
But missing you is not gentle.
It comes with sharp edges:
the words you said
that never held.
Some nights
I rewrite our ending,
make you kinder,
make myself enough,
but morning always tells the truth:
you chose a life
that did not have my name in it.
Still —
if you walked back
with that familiar apology in your eyes,
my heart would betray me first,
run to you
over the ruins you left.
That is my disappointment:
not that you left —
but that a part of me
is waiting
as if what I feel towards has no memory.
