How do I host husband’s male family/friends overnight without compromising my sense of modesty?
Does anyone come from a conservative family like myself where hijab/niqab is the norm? How do you host any males that your husband might want to have stay with you guys overnight (a friend, a visiting imam, etc.) without interacting with them. Growing up I only remember going to people’s houses and there were curtains in place between rooms so that people were segregated that way but most of those women were niqabi so any males were on high alert not to accidentally go anywhere they weren’t supposed to. I’m not niqabi but I don’t want to be meeting/socializing with men outside of necessity. I think it’s reasonable to make exceptions or be more lenient for his close family members but the random friend from college who he barely speaks to but happens to be in town and my husband wants to invite him to stay with us? Would love to facilitate that but I don’t wanna say more than salam to the guy and I don’t want to be around while he’s hanging out with my husband. If the roles were reversed and I wanted to invite a girlfriend over to stay with me, my husband would stay the night at a family member’s place to give us privacy or like HIDE in his office lol. But as a woman I need access to the kitchen and he kinda needs me to be there to help with the food and the hosting from behind the scenes so it’s not like I can disappear and leave them to it either?
I know I’m probably making it more complicated than it needs to be but I really wanna hear from conservative women on how they successfully do it or whether they do it at all. Do I need to have a specific layout in my home to facilitate it? My husband has visited some homes where he was just hanging out in the living room which was separate from the rest of the house. He never saw anyone else and the husband just went back to the kitchen to grab stuff that I assume his wife was preparing. But that’s hosting for a meal, what about staying with them?? Please advise lol.
