My father passed away a few weeks ago. This was his grandfathers watch he was very proud of it. I thought I would share it here and see if anyone knows anything else about this type of watch. I am going to see how much it costs to get it cleaned and restored by a horologist in London when I get back there.

Here is what I can find out about the watch from AI.

**Columbus Watch Company "Railway Special."**
The Movement Details

* **Manufacturer:** The movement is signed **C.W.C.** for the Columbus Watch Company.
* **Grade:** It is marked as **No. 605**, which was one of their high-grade, 21-jewel models.
* **Jewels:** It confirms the **21 Jewels** noted on the dial, with several visible in red ruby settings on the gold-colored plates.
* **Adjustments:** The movement is engraved with **"Adjusted"** and **"Heat & Cold,"** which were strict requirements for railroad-grade certification to ensure the watch kept time regardless of the weather or the position of the watch.
* **Movement Serial Number:** The number **473682** identifies the specific mechanism. Based on Columbus production records, this watch was likely manufactured around **1900–1903**, right before the company was sold.
* **Estimated Age:** Based on the style and the 21-jewel "Railroad" designation, it likely dates between **1895 and 1925**.

# The Watch Case

* **Case Maker:** The "Indian Head" hallmark inside the back cover belongs to the **Fahys Watch Case Co.**.
* **Material:** The lack of a "14K" or "10K" stamp, combined with the Fahys brand, suggests this is likely **Gold Filled**(a thick layer of gold bonded to a base metal), which was standard for durable, everyday railroad use.
* **Case Serial Number:** **798634** is the unique ID for the case itself.

My brother and I have inherited my Great Grandfather's Watch.
