Former race horse from the gold generation, Tokio Perfect, passed away on February 23, 2026 due to old age, at 31.

He is an American born horse purchased by Japanese owner, and showed very promising results since his debut in November 1997, winning four races straight including GIII race Crystal Cup.

In 1998 NHK Mile Cup, Tokio Perfect faced El Condor Pasa and Lord Ax - both were undefeated American born horses with four/three winnings already. Tokio Perfect's popularity was only behind El Condor Pasa in that race, and Lord Ax was in third. However, the result was brutal. El won the race with a clear lead, while Tokio Perfect sunk to 15th place and Lord Ax finished in 9th.

In that race, Tokio Perfect was jockeyed by Ebina, and El was jockeyed by Matoba. After the race, Ebina got to jockey El, Matoba went to jockey Grass Wonder.

That being said, Ebina still jockeyed Tokio Perfect for a while. The horse just would never met with another main gold generation members again. Also, it's clear that Tokio Perfect was only suite for short distance races, so he went on the sprint route from that day.

Ebina would help Tokio Perfect to win another title, GIII Chunichi Sports Sho (now Falcon Stakes). He would win other two open titles before completely lost his power after the 2002 Takamatsunomiya Kinen.

However, he wasn't retiring even though he was already 7YO, he was transferred to Iwate, and was castrated. He proved his toughness and raced all the way to late 2008, could still win races at the age of 13.

After retirement, he became a fostered horse for the Iwate Prefecture Equestrian Alliance. He would stayed there until he passed away.
