My cousin punched my aunt and I.

TW: TRIGGERING CONTENT

Let’s call my 17M cousin Jeff.

My 52F aunt will be Annie.

My aunt and I (23F) share a property. She’s also the property manager, and my parents own the property. He lives on her side (she’s a single mum to him, no other kids, a few cats), I live alone on my side, with my pets.

Jeff has ADHD, refuses to see a therapist, and refuses to go on ADHD meds.

Tonight (starting at like 9pm, until around 11:30pm), he started freaking out because of multiple factors:

-His dad being his usual narcissistic and abusive-language self, bullying Jeff’s 17yo GF.

-Annie having money troubles due to a shitty company she works for not treating her the way she deserves. She does a LOT for that damn company.

-Jeff moving out with GF soon, and feeling anxious about having enough money. He daytrades, and is (to my knowledge) successful so far.

-He’s been selling a bunch of Annie’s stuff (close to 50,000 bucks in Tiffany jewelry, to name something he’s trying to sell) with kinda loose permission from Annie.

Oh and some history about myself and Annie:

-Annie divorced Jeff’s dad because he was extremely violent and abusive in many ways.

-I divorced my ex-husband due to similar behaviour, just not as physical.

-Males yelling triggers both of us for obvious reasons.

Okay so this is what happened:

9pm— Jeff treats Annie like a servant. He asks for McD’s, she says she’ll get it for him, and asks what he wants. He never tells her, so she doesn’t go. Jeff starts yelling at Annie, while holding a SHARP hunting knife. He likes weapons, his dad introduced him to them. He hates his dad, but has absorbed a lot of his dad’s traits. He’s not fully aware of what Annie was subjected to, so he’s fine with yelling at her I guess.

His yelling gets so animalistic and scary that I go over to Annie’s side and try to get between them. I was worried for Annie. He never uses his knife in this situation, but I wasn’t taking any chances leaving her alone with him.

Jack turns his anger towards me, tells me I have to get out of “his house”and calling me all sorts of slurs I haven’t been called since middle school, and even uses the N word (none of us are black, they both are white and I’m mixed. White mum, Indian (🇮🇳) dad, so I’m tan). Annie told me to block him because he told her he was gonna text me mean things (like okay, nothing I haven’t heard before buddy), so I blocked him before he got a word in.

All three of us are standing in the hallway by the stairs, he ends up elbowing me in the chin pretty hard and knocking me to the ground, so I try to pull him down with me, except he braced himself against the railing. I just kept pulling on him.

He scurries upstairs and starts freaking out in his room (he has a habit of punching holes in doors and taking a door off of its hinges consistently. It’s partly the fact that the door wasn’t installed correctly by the previous owner, and partly his anger). Annie tells me to go to my side, so I do. But I grab a dull big knife for protection while on my side.

While all of this is happening, I can hear him yelling death threats about me to Annie, and Annie also tells me that he punched her twice today in the face as well. Apparently Annie told Jeff that if he’s freaking out so much, she would have to call the police. He then says that if she calls the police, she’ll never see him again. Classic guilt-tripping. Annie cries to me about him being all she has which is not true, she has me and my mum (her older sister) but I understand what she means. I’ve also never seen her cry before today, so it hit me extra hard that things were serious.

Annie told me to block him because he told her he was gonna text me mean things (like okay, nothing I haven’t heard before buddy), so I blocked him before he got a word in.

Jeff starts freaking out again, so I go back over there with that dull big kitchen knife. I don’t want to hurt my cousin, but he clearly doesn’t care about our safety (Annie and I are both disabled btw) so I will act accordingly.

Thankfully I didn’t need to use the knife, but I was seriously close to calling the police. After all, he did batter both of us. But at the same time, I didn’t want to cause a tear in the relationship between me and Annie, I couldn’t care less about my relationship with Jeff though. It’s probably one of the hardest decisions that a parent would ever have to make, to call the cops on their own child.

After a lot of yelling (I brought out my animalistic voice too for Jeff, honestly impressed myself, didn’t know I could sound like that😂) and her trying to calm him down unsuccessfully, she ended up hanging out on my side of the house for a bit, with the door connecting the sides being locked. I even set my house’s alarm with Jeff in mind. That just sucks, but we feel unsafe with his presence.

I had been on FaceTime with my mum since I came back from Annie’s side the second time, because I wanted somebody who wasn’t at the property to be aware of what was happening, I wanted my mum, and I wanted Annie to be able to talk to her big sister. And it did help Annie a lot, so I’m really glad. Nobody fucks with my aunt.

Jeff took everything out of his closet, packed like a few things, left the rest of the clothing around his room, and headed to his girlfriend’s house around 11:30pm. That’s where he’s staying for the night, he says he’ll be back in the morning. I really just hope he moves out prematurely, as I don’t want my aunt to go through this for another four months. It’s breaking her, after everything she’s done for him, and everything she’s going through now, she doesn’t need a crazy son on her plate. She told me it would probably be best if he moved out sooner, and I agree.

So basically, no cops were called, my mum and I calmed Annie down a bit, and now she’s in her bed and I’m in my bed. Was not expecting chaos today, but I guess that’s what we got. I just really needed to type it all out, as I don’t have therapy for another two days.

Sorry for the novel, that’s what happens when my stream of consciousness has trouble stopping😅 if you guys have any questions, if I wasn’t clear enough in certain spots of the post, please let me know! I’ll do my best to clarify 💚
