CMB needs to work on his self-esteem
Don't get me wrong here, I love CMB and his defensive capabilities are probably one of the best on this team. He made 2 blocks and was staying on top of players preventing movement and effective shooting. But that's all he was tonight, and frankly not the best given who we were up against.
He showed next to no offensive capabilities. Hell it might as well have been nothing. Every possession he got the ball, not once did he try to clear, dribble, attempt to shoot, playmake, nor attract defense. Instead every time someone passed the ball to him, contested or with no one guarding him, his first instinct was always to look around to see who to pass it to. He didn't even bother to dribble the ball, he just rotated on the spot and chucked the ball to whomever he deemed was open.
The most frustrating parts was watching him at one point at the 3 point line with no one guarding him and he passes the ball to someone in the paint who's being contested by hartenstein and holmgren instead of trying for a shot. Some of those passes during heavy contests, resulted in turnovers when he could've just taken the shot.
This man attempted 0 3PT shots, and the only non foul shot he got was the one Scottie passed to him when he was already under the net. It genuinely felt like whenever he had the ball on offense, he just turned into Ben Simmons, but then when he goes back to defense he's CMB again.
Darko needs to talk to him because his performance tonight was abysmal for a starter. He's got a build to be a physical player hell, he literally weighs more (245 lbs) than scottie (237 lbs) and he utilizes next to none of his weight to push through like scottie does. He's basically a big friendly giant on offense.
I'm guessing his timidness stems from the thumb injury which has been affecting his performance since January but there should be no excuses to at least throw the damn ball in the net if no one is guarding him. I'm also guessing he's anxious because it's his rookie season and he might be scared of being replaced so he chooses to focus on defense and let someone else worry about shooting while his thumb is injured.
However, I don't want him to keep this mentality of looking for players to pass the ball to (even when he's open), rather he should be the one to shoot because he has shown in prior months to injury that he is capable of shooting effectively. I don't want him to turn into Ben Simmons and frankly Darko should nip the bud on this before it evolves into a bigger problem.
