Was there any similarity between the Japanese co-prosperity sphere and the Chinese tributary system?

To go more in depth, I wonder if one of them is inherently better than the other. I’m personally biased to say the Chinese tributary system was more beneficial to its members than the Japanese co-prosperity sphere.

The idealized system was obviously less in line with the actions taken by the Japanese. But im poorly read on both systems beyond skim readings.
