happy my ex birthday today and it made me realize Islam teaches sex, not love
It was a small moment. I just sent her a text, she said "thank you," and that was it. It was quiet. It was peaceful. There was no drama, no demand, just two humans acknowledging each other after everything we've been through.
It hit me that when I was a practicing Muslim, I didn’t know how to love like this.
The version of "love" I was taught wasn’t about connection or peace. It was about possession. It was about rules. It was obsessed with sex and access.
Think about it. The teachings focus so much on the technicalities of access to women:
How many you can marry (four).
Who you can sleep with (wives, and "those your right hand possesses").
How to cover them up so other men can’t see them.
When a man has the "right" to demand intimacy.
It feels like a system designed for breeding and resource management, not for bonding. It treats women like property you have to guard. It’s loud, it’s possessive, and honestly, it feels barbaric now that I’m out.
Real love isn't about ownership or "rights."
It’s quiet.
It’s sticking around when things are boring or tough. It’s not checking a rulebook to see if you’re allowed to hold someone’s hand or if you need to feel threatened by other men.
I used to think jealousy and control meant I loved someone.
Now I realize that was just insecurity dressed up as religion.
Love is just... peace......And I never found that in a scripture
