exhaust system

I have a question. I was looking for exhaust systems and found several over $1000, and on eBay there are several under $300 (I don't know much about brands). Are they really that different? Is it worth buying one over $1000? Does the cheaper or more expensive one affect the motorcycle's performance? Will I need to tune it if I change the system? Thank you very much for your answers.
