The guy wasn't bad at sales. He was just copy pasting emails into Excel every morning before he could even start.
I'm 21. Been doing web development and design since 12th grade.
First real job was at a marketing agency.
There was this sales guy. Sharp, confident, good on calls. But every single morning before he could call anyone he'd open his email, filter website inquiries, and manually copy paste every lead into Excel. Name, number, message. One by one.
Then pass it to another guy to start calling.
I watched this happen every day and thought he's not losing deals because he's bad at sales. He's losing deals because by the time he starts calling it's already been 2 hours. Some leads already called a competitor. Some just moved on.
Nobody questioned it. It was just how things worked.
That bothered me more than I expected.
So I started setting up websites differently. Every inquiry that comes through the contact form goes directly into Google Sheets instantly. Name, number, message, timestamp. No emails. No copy pasting. No Excel.
Sales team opens Sheets in the morning and just starts calling.
That one change is the difference between following up in 2 hours and following up in 2 minutes.
I also stopped asking for money upfront. I build a complete preview of your website first. You see the full thing before paying anything. Both of my last clients confirmed within 24 hours of seeing it.
Genuinely curious, is this Excel copy paste thing still happening in most businesses or did I just work somewhere unusually chaotic?
