What makes a fragrance smell “cheap” to you?

Discussion

I don’t know what chemicals cause it, but whenever something smells super alcohol-y, plasticky, or just screechy to my nose, it instantly comes off as cheap. Not even about the price, just the experience. That sharp opening that feels like straight alcohol, then a weird synthetic sweetness that doesn’t blend well. It almost smells flat and loud at the same time. I’ve tried fragrances that were hyped and expensive, but if the blend felt harsh or unbalanced on skin, I couldn’t enjoy them at all. For me, smoothness and balance matter more than projection or hype. If it smells blended and natural, it feels higher quality immediately. Is it the alcohol blast, synthetic sharpness, or poor blending that makes a fragrance smell cheap to you?
