KOSPIE (DAAD) – Are these realistic choices?

Bachelor

Hi everyone,

I’m a Physics student from Sonora, Mexico, planning to apply to KOSPIE (from the DAAD). The program would start in summer 2027, including the 3-month intensive German course, and I would begin my exchange in my 7th semester.

This will be my first time applying, as I only meet the required credits this year. I’m using last year’s call as a reference while preparing my documents in advance.

My GPA is 90/100 (approximately 3.6/4.0), and I’m mainly interested in particle physics., and I’m mainly interested in particle physics. I’m particularly interested in TU Dresden because of the practical training and research opportunities related to particle physics.

I’m considering applying to TU Dresden, the University of Göttingen, and Ruhr University Bochum.

Regarding languages, I currently have A2 German (which meets the minimum requirement). At my university, one semester of German corresponds to half a level, so going from A2 to B1 takes two semesters. I expect to reach B1 before the intensive course in Germany. I’m also planning to take the TOEFL soon, since the call requires a B2 level in English.

Since we can only apply to three universities, do these seem like realistic choices for my profile, or would you recommend including at least one less competitive option? Based on my background, do you think I would be a competitive applicant for KOSPIE?

For context, by the time I start the exchange I will have completed core courses such as Calculus I–IV, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability, Numerical Analysis, Mechanics I & II (with lab), Electromagnetism (with lab), Mathematical Methods of Physics, Theoretical

Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, Instrumentation, Modern Physics, Intro to Quantum Mechanics, as well as particle physics electives.

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have gone through KOSPIE. Thanks!
