Best grass seed

For the past 3-4 years my husband and I have been trying (and then failing) to grow a lush green lawn in our backyard. We have tried a few different seed mixes - mostly mixtures that we purchased from the Portland Nursery on Stark. Without fail every year it starts to die at the end of summer and half of it doesn't make it through the winter. We have a sprinkler system for it. Honestly we could be better at making sure the dogs stay off. (planning on putting a fence up this year for the seed to get nice and established before my dog starts trotting and peeing on it)

I would LOVE any tips for some hardy seed mixture you all have had success with. and any tips for supporting seed growth
