Strange Solace
We coexist as observers
Living in the electricity between us,
Floating slow rotations around the sun, simultaneously grounded and without gravity.
We coexist in our imaginations.
Every glance like the first time our eyes met,
Not daring to breathe or blink
In fear of not knowing whether the shockwaves in my chest are stopping or starting my heart.
Stories we invent, stranger than fiction and endless.
Will we ever speak or have we grown too intoxicated in the joy of the mystery?
A yearning for the visceral,
Wisdomless, naive, electric.
Like being young hopeless romantics trading smiles on the track field.
What if fate should decide a hole in the world remain between us?
Is the mystery in the joy?
We coexist as observers living in the strange solace of an exchange of glances.
A matriarch and an astronaut
Alive in the electricity of the deepest bowels of the earth beneath our feet.
