Second baby prep: What I’m doing differently this time (things I used to think were extra but are now essentials)
I’m currently 32 weeks with my second, and looking back at my first pregnancy, I was such a minimalist snob lol. I thought hand-washing bottles was "therapeutic" and manual nasal aspirators were "fine."
Fast forward to now: with a chaotic toddler and another one on the way, my mindset has shifted from "How can I save money?" to "How can I save 15 minutes of my sanity?" If you’re prepping for baby #2 (or even #1!), here are the two "upgrades" I’m refusing to live without this time:
A dedicated Baby Bottle Washer With my first, I spent hours at the sink. My hands were always dry and cracked. For #2, I realized that between toddler snacks and newborn feedings, I physically won’t have time to scrub and steam-dry everything.
- Why it’s a game changer: I went with the Grownsy. It washes, sterilizes, and dries. I can just pop the bottles and pump parts in, press a button, and go play with my toddler. It’s not just a "luxury"—it’s literally giving me back an hour of my life every day. Definitely worth the splurge if you’re breastfeeding/pumping or formula feeding.
An Electric Nasal Aspirator I used the Frida manual "snot sucker" with my first. It worked, but:
I felt like I was going to hyperventilate trying to get a stubborn booger out.
I swear I caught every single cold my baby had because I was literally sucking in those germs.
- The Upgrade: I’ve already unboxed Electric Nasal Aspirator. It’s got different suction levels and crucially it has a light and music to distract the baby. No more wrestling matches at 2 AM trying to clear a congested nose.
The takeaway: If you’re on the fence about "automated" gear, ask yourself what your time is worth. For me, anything that handles the chores so I can actually sleep or be present with my kids is a win.
What are your "I thought this was a gimmick but it’s actually a lifesaver" items? Help a second-time mom out!
