Big 10cm cyst. Hormonal contraception?

my doctor found I have a 10cm cyst on my ovary (not 100% sure where exactly it is though). 4 months ago it was the size of a thumb, then it dissappeard and now its there again and even bigger... It hurts especially during ovulation and after ovulation. My doctor said there are two solutions. A surgery where they remove it but that could mean they will take also the ovary out if its affevted or starting to take hormonal contraception, so the whole hormonal cycle stops, the ovulation stops and the cyst has time to heal and absorb. He said the contraception method is less invasive and as a doctor he recommends me to try it before the surgery... Im in stress becose theres a chance of torsion (the ovary will do a 180°) or bursting. Both means emergency. Also I've never taken contraception. So my question us. Does anyone also have the same experience? "Curing" a huge cyst with contraceptives?
