Why Job Searching Without Knowing Your Skills Is a Waste

Career planning

I used to apply to every job that looked like meand wonder why I never got responses. Then I realized the problem wasn’t my experience it was my skills alignment.
Most people skip the step of analyzing their actual skills versus what the market demands. Without knowing your skill gaps, you end up applying randomly, taking courses that don’t matter, and spinning your wheels.
Once I started mapping what I could do versus what employers wanted, I could focus on targeted upskilling for the roles I actually wanted and reskilling for areas I wanted to pivot into. Suddenly, job applications became strategic instead of stressful.
It’s amazing how just being aware of your gaps changes your whole approach. Job seeking starts to feel like a roadmap instead of a guessing game
