Monica’s portrayal

I was already wary when I saw that Monica Lewinsky was a producer of the show.

The reason I really enjoyed season 1 was because of the strong accuracy and portrayal. It felt like we were more of an omnipresent viewer rather than “inside the head” of any of the main characters. Maybe Kardashian’s at times, but that made sense from an audience perspective.

I’m still watching the last season and I’m currently at the beginning of episode 4. So far, I’ve been disappointed with the depiction of the relationship between Monica and Clinton. It feels like we’re mostly inside Monica’s head. I dislike that they’re portraying her as a naive kid. Being young doesn’t mean you lack value or the ability to discern right from wrong. I find that hard to believe. She was a young adult, not a teenager. She clearly made a mistake and showed poor judgment by being involved with a married man.

Now, I absolutely think what she suffered was disproportionate. But the way she’s being depicted feels somewhat idealized, and I’m struggling with that because I appreciated the accuracy of season 1’s portrayal.

So far, it feels like the show’s agenda is to restore Lewinsky’s image.
