Sinners Plot Point Confusion

So near the beginning of the movie, when the twins were buying the barn from the klan guy, it was noted that the floors were recently cleaned. Later on, we learn from the vamps that the klan was coming to kill them. My question is how come the community hadn't heard of the slaughter happening in the area (both by the klan and the vampires)? Pearline said she walked there so it wasn't that far off from town and when the twins were spreading the news of their juke joint it seemed like a well-known place. (Or maybe people did hear what was going/went on and simply minded their own business?)
