Did anyone else have these weird things as a kid?
My Fine motor skills are very particular, like I'm only good at skills that i'm practically competitive at like typing ( albeit i can't type the way normal people do and my teacher pointed this out when I was younger, it made more sense when I got my diagnosis years later ) .. and catching small balls ( SO much practice its not even funny ) but that's literally only about it, everything else has taken me years to even get okay at
but i was wondering if anyone else related because i have some funny but specific answers lol
when i was a kid It took me soo many more years to learn how to tie my shoes properly and when I finally learnt it still takes me longer than the average person and I cant figure out how people tie it the normal way ( that thing where it goes around the loop or something ) I only could because my grandmother taught me the bunny method ..
I also could not fold paper straight for the life of me, I always thought i was just stupid or something and It'd take all my will power to even get it somewhat straight and whilst all of my classmates were way further ahead i'd still be trying to fold it in half and I still can't do origami.
The way I held my pencil and wrote I could never correct ever, I had to get taken aside to do handwriting practice alllll the time and my mother would always suggest putting me in handwriting school, it always pissed me off when teachers would try and correct it and at some point I just accepted that i'd always be better at typing than writing ( i still haven't perfected or corrected it, there is no consistency there but just that I hope and pray I can do it when i have to LOL )
I also can't use cutlery correctly, and I've had many instances even up until adulthood where people have had to deliberately point it out and offer to help me, and when i finally got that diagnosis it felt so good to make them feel bad for making me feel stupid ( they always said it with a tone I'm not trying to be mean, but it gets to a point )
I used to have to always hold one hand over my mouth when I'd eat because without fail I would always spill food when trying to eat it, it doesn't matter how hard i'd try not to do it whether it was putting it in or holding my hand under the food it'd spill and it's so annoying
I also can't walk straight like ever, my balance with walking is horrible and it still upsets me when people make fun of me for it, they always told me i had that " drunk " walk
I'd just have genuine fear of doing anything to do with hitting or batting and yet I'd get in trouble for opting out everytime.
my family are also all professional bike riders and imagine my parents surprise when I failed the cycling test you take at school when you're younger, I was also put into specifically the sports that need coordination and balance; ( cheerleading and gymnastics ) safe to say I'm glad I quit those as soon as I could.
we need more awareness for dyspraxia.
