18 and changing direction again — am I behind?

I’m 18 and just looking for perspective.

I dropped out of high school at 16 and worked retail for about 6 months (I ended up getting fired). After that I worked fast food for around 9 months. Then I got into a trade job and worked there for about a year.

While I was working the trade job, I went back and finished my high school diploma.

The trade job didn’t end up working out long-term, and now I’m thinking about going to community college for Building Construction Technology to strengthen my skills instead of just bouncing between jobs.

When I told my mom I wanted to go to college, she gave me a disappointed look and it really got in my head. The last couple years have been tough and I’m worried I look inconsistent or like I don’t know what I’m doing.

Is it normal at 18 to pivot like this? I’m trying to build something stable.
