Put yourself forward for promo

Advice / Questions

Hi Team, does one ever put themselves forward to be promoted?

I've been in an analyst role for years, and work closely with the recruiting Senior Manager (we report to the same boss) and have supported him a lot to deliver his function and look good across and above, including with ELT.

Recently a new role opened up under this Senior Manager, and while the new role was actively mentioned in team stand ups, all he has raised with me is if I 'knew someone' who could potentially do the job.

Am I missing something and should have sold myself in this case?

Years of being an analyst have taught me that 9/10 the hiring manager hires external, unless you are part of 'the club'.

So what say you? Happy to take it offline......
