How do I Explain the gap without tanking my interview ?
Hi all, we interview a decent amount of people. I'm already starting to see some fall out from the implementation of ai in businesses.
Just wanted to point something out from the interviewers perspective.
Most interviewers already know AI displacement is happening. The question isn't whether to mention it.
It's more about how to frame it.
The Not so Great Way:
"I was laid off because the company replaced my role with AI."
A Better Way:
"My role was eliminated as part of an industry-wide shift toward AI automation. I used that as an opportunity to [specific thing] and I'm now targeting [specific direction] because [specific reason]."
This is pretty simple stuff but you want to follow a path where you Acknowledge what happened, reframe as intentional and then show forward motion.
