Tips to sneak out of bed while baby sleeps?

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months

Hi everyone! I need help with any tips you may have to be able to sneak out of bed while my baby sleeps.

My baby girl is about to turn 5 months old this Friday and I have to go back to work next week. We co-sleep in my bed and she’s latched on me pretty much all night, sometimes she unlatches and sleeps alone for a while but she needs to be touching me somehow with her feet, arm, etc. She needs to feel me there or she’ll wake up crying.

I haven’t been able to unlatch her and sneak out for longer than 40 minutes, that literally just happened a couple days ago when I had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. She unlatched on her own and I was able to use the restroom and comeback to bed and sleep without being right next to her but the whole thing, from when she unlatched until she half woke up looking for me, was 40 minutes and I need her to keep sleeping longer than that so I can work. Any other time I’ve tried to sneak out or just unlatch her, she wakes up and cries because I’m not there.

I’m so stressed out about going back to work. I work from home so that’s definitely helpful but if she won’t let me be away from her I don’t know how am I supposed to do it.

My company has been very nice and extended my leave for 2 more months and is also letting me work part-time for the first 3 weeks, and I chose my schedule to be for the last 4 hours of her sleep in hopes I can sneak out of bed to be able to work, but I can’t leave her for more than 20-40 minutes if I’m lucky before she wakes up looking for me, so I really don’t know what to do.

I don’t want to quit my job because I’ve been there for more than 5 years now and they’ve been really accommodating, and we also need my income. My husband has 2 jobs now to help with expenses and says we might be able to make it without me working but it’ll be really hard, we’re already struggling financially, and we’re trying to move back to our home state where our expenses will go up so I’ll need to work, and keeping my job would really help us with all that.

We don’t have a support system where we live now, my family lives in the other side of the country and we are no contact with his family for various reasons, so we get no help at all. He works from 4am to 9am in his first job, and goes straight to his second job until 7pm, so I’m alone with our baby all day and take care of her most of the night, he does what he can when he gets home but he needs to sleep so I don’t ask him to take full care of her.

I’m really trying to find a way to make this work, so please give me any and all advice you have.

I also don’t know what I’m going to do when I have to go back full time since during the day my baby needs me at all times. She hates being put down and only will stay in her bouncer or gym for 5-10 minutes, 15 if I’m really lucky, the rest of times she wants to be held and only contact naps.

We can’t afford a nanny or daycare right now, and we don’t know if she’ll even accept that because she is very attached to me and needs to see me at all times when someone else holds her, even my husband. She won’t contact nap with him, she’ll cry and scream until I go back and hold her. I think she’s only fell asleep in his arms a handful of times on very rare occasions.

I know it’s normal and she’ll eventually get more independent, and I wish I didn’t have to do this, but I need to work and I don’t want to have her screaming or crying if I’m not there.

I’m sorry for the long post, I just really need help. I feel so overwhelmed right now.
