Does studying abroad look better or just getting more different clinical experiences here?

☑️ Extracurriculars

I’m graduating in three years and then doing a gap year. To be honest, I don’t really want to study abroad. I’m interested in working as a patient care technician at a prison or correctional facility, or just getting more hospital volunteering experience, and/or volunteering towards the cause of helping people with neurodegenerative diseases. I like living in the usa. So many pre-med people that I know are doing multiple study abroad trips though. Would that look better? Another question I have is, since I’m graduating in three years and taking a gap year when do I need to take the mcat?
