I attempted DIY labia reduction 5 years ago, now seeing a surgeon for correction. How common is this? Advice on how to explain it?

Hey everyone, I have a consultation coming up soon with a plastic surgeon to get a proper labiaplasty, specifically to shorten and symmetrize my inner labia. The thing is... about 5 years ago, I stupidly tried to do it myself. I know how incredibly reckless and dangerous that was, and I deeply regret it.

Thankfully, nothing catastrophic happened..no major infections, no permanent nerve damage or other serious long-term issues that I can tell, but the result still looks uneven and it's been a huge source of embarrassment and discomfort for me ever since.

I would never do anything like that again, and l've learned my lesson the hard way.

I'm really nervous about the appointment, mostly because I don't know how surgeons typically react to hearing something like this. Has anyone here been in a similar situation?

I'm mostly looking for reassurance that I'm not some extreme outlier, and maybe some tips on how to approach the conversation so I can get the best possible care and outcome.

Thanks so much in advance for any experiences or advice, I really appreciate this community.
