EIP deferral into 401k

Onion. Took the guidance to defer my EIP into 401k, the full EIP amount shows as "incentive deferral", but I got a sizeable hit to social security and Medicare taxes and my "take home" is about 25% lower than normal. Is that the government working as intended and I was just ignorant?

I guess Medicare and SS dgaf.
