Vague memory of a film

I remember watching a film with my dad when I was really young. All I can remember was a man, putting his child to bed. I think I remember him reciting “as I lay me down to sleep” with his boy. Shortly after an intruder or gunman breaks in. The child, with short curly hair wearing his pyjamas, runs to the bedroom window and jumps out to escape. However either the father or the child, potentially both get shot and killed by the gunman. I would love to know and be very impressed if anyone can decipher what film this is based of my not so clear memory.
