Speculation on Spotlight Hour Being Replaced, Not Cancelled
it seems less like spotlight hour is being scrapped for good and more like the saturday/end of month events are replacing it with lots of similarities.
- instead of featuring spotlight hours, the march infographic featured a Bug Out event
- this event has increased shiny for specific pokemon and a guaranteed spawn for these selected pokemon from lures, seeming to negate the impact spotlight hours had on normal spawns for some players. it seems to be 3-4 pokemon similar to the 4 different spotlight pokemon over a month.
- the event notification in announcements also points out the 2x-3x catch candy and 2x xp + extra stardust from GO pass lining up with the event (closer to end of month where people will have these unlocked for free). it also states a free pass specifically for the event to guarantee the 2x things we usually get from spotlight hour
- it spans across multiple days, allowing players to choose what time to participate with their own lures (regular lures spawn the event pokemon with increased shiny, these are free from spins and research and stack easily. big point: they’re also awarded from showcases, explaining why showcasing was made the tuesday daily special).
- the announcement also states there will be “bonus tasks” during the event, likely guaranteed catches and candy.
what do you guys think? i think this makes spotlight hour a more themed event with all the pokemon that would’ve spanned over a month condensed into a weekend, with all the same rewards but easier accessibility and the choice to participate only for the pokemon you want without losing normal spawns during events. if this does replace spotlight hour, i think the outcome would be a net positive as long as an event like this is monthly guaranteed.
