Mice in cabin filter

Saved this under safety question cuz cabin filter wasn’t an option… the last time I had my oil changed, there were 4 live baby mice found in my cabin filter. I had to drop off my car yesterday for some work and got a message from Kia that my NEW cabin filter was clean, but chewed.

How can I avoid this?? Like what can I do to prevent this? It really is starting to get annoying. The dude at the dealership said to put moth balls around my hood. Where??? And is that even safe? Help!!

For context my boyfriend does kinda live far out from the main streets in the middle of nowhere but farm land. 😅
