Poppy Portal, Baby!

SpoilerDiscussion

So before I say anything, I just want to make clear that I enjoy the story of Poppy Playtime. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s definitely neat. Probably my biggest issue with this video game is the actual game part. I am someone who really values replayability, and scripted chase sequences, one-off minigames, and pretty uninspired puzzles aren’t exactly what I would call replayable. And when you already know the story, there isn’t really any incentive to replay the game. If I were to fix this issue, I think I would give the game more of a Portal-like puzzle vibe. It’s difficult to explain because Portal is so simple yet so perfect in its level design—just a bunch of pretty simple and intuitive mechanics that add up over time and create interesting puzzles. Also, it would stop the continuous introduction of one-chapter mechanics only to get a new one and never see the former again. While I am only a somewhat fan of this game, I would love to see it be better. Also, a Portal-style horror game is literally all I ever wanted in life.
