What's your approach to Unconsciousness?
First time DM here - have a character who interacted with a magical item that knocked them out - didn't reduce their HP, just knocked them out... and of course the d4 rolled a 4. The rest of the party doesn't want to sit around and wait for them to wake up to speed up time but we've now gone 2 sessions where this player hasn't gotten to play and I feel a little bad because, despite not wanting to time jump (because the plot keeps moving and they very recently missed stopping the bad guy from being a bad guy because they took a SR), the other PCs are trying to find solutions to wake their unconscious buddy (mostly slapping and attempting healing spells), which I've already declared don't work. I have two druids who are trying to see if there's something they could make to wake them.
What are some of your favorite alternatives to the d4 rule?
Have any of you made, essentially, smelling salts in game before and, if so, how?
