Exhausted by the attitudes in this career field

RANT!

I’m just here to vent, and put out an interesting piece of information I learned recently.

I know this field has always been a little catty- we all experienced it at some point whether it was in school, here online, or in our actual jobs. I’m just getting so sick of it! I was speaking with a rep who also happens to be an esthetician recently about the frustration with our ever shrinking scope in our particular state. She happens to be friends with one of our boards main members, and she had actually chatted with him about it recently. According to him, the reason they keep taking things away instead of providing more clarification or ways to facilitate these treatments is because estheticians/spas keep reporting each other and it’s making it too difficult for them to oversee, so they’re just nixing things instead. A new spa/esthetician will move into an area near an existing one, and they’ll start getting reports from them both about the competition. He said it’s becoming predictable at this point!

Sorry, not sorry- this is some of the most embarrassing/pathetic crap I’ve heard in a while. It makes us look ignorant, stupid, and small-minded. There are plenty of clients out there for all of us, if you’re good at what you do, they’ll come to you. It would be really great if we could come together and stop bullying each other, and instead focus on getting collectively better pay, taken more seriously, etc. Instead, it’s become apparent that a lot of us are more interested in throwing each other under the bus whether it’s with state or clients and it’s just become exhausting because I love what I get to do and I don’t want to leave this field.

If you’re reporting real issues, obviously this doesn’t apply to you- thats important to keep clients safe. But if you’re one of those just reporting your competition to be difficult, or discounting others experiences because they dont align with yours, or you’re just being catty for the hell of it-please grow up.
