Feeling like a big fish in a little pond
I am the least conceited person in the world. I feel like it's important for me to preface by saying that.
I'm nothing special. I lack any real talent when it comes to most of the things people talk about when referring to "talent".
What I excel at is being a people person. I feel like I "get" people. Like...really. And I am such a multifaceted person that I can make friends with just about anyone. I'm the guy in line at Chipotle that the person in front of turns and randomly starts talking about gas prices with.
But I'm under-utilized. I can't seem to make a damn friend to save my life. I'm great for 5 minutes of conversation all the way to getting somene through a tough time in their life, then I'm just left. Is that what friendship is really like as you approach the second half of your life?
I search high and low for someone who can appreciate my personality. My wit. My sarcasm. My amazing grilled cheeses. But we live in a world where the instant gratification is all most people want and it's depressing as all hell. I feel like a big fish in a little pond; I'm ready to make connections that last. That matter. And everyone around me is too busy focusing on their now to even give me the time of day. I have a lot going for me. Did I mention that I make an amazing grilled cheese?
I've been at this for months now and I am no better off than I was six months ago. I wish there were a way that people could connect in the most primal of ways without having to risk breaking off a big piece of your heart.
Vent over.
