Darkglass X Ultra vs X7. Ultra- Good enough eq, or will a preamp pedal be needed to truly shape tone?

I’m wondering if the X-ultra has a good enough tone shaping eq section to not need an a seperate preamp pedal to shape the clean tone.

Additionally I’ve read that darkglass pedals really come alive when pushed. Does anyone have expiration with this?

My options are between getting an EBS Microbass 2, to shape the clean tone and push the X7.

Or if I can get away with only using the Ultra and get everything I need
