Ultrawide vs dual monitor

Hi!

I’m currently running a dual-monitor setup, but they’re starting to get old and I’m planning to replace them.

I’m debating whether I should stick with dual monitors or switch to a single ultrawide.

My main use cases are software development and some casual gaming (WoW, BF6, Elden Ring, etc.).

My budget is under $1000. I don’t have a specific size in mind, but I’d prefer around 1440p (not mandatory).
GPU is an RTX 5080 16 GB, so driving higher resolutions shouldn’t be an issue.

For people who’ve tried both: how does ultrawide compare to dual monitors for dev + gaming?
Any pros/cons or things you wish you’d known before switching?
