Crohn’s and Unexplainable CKD
Wondering how many of you are in the same boat I am. Long story short I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at 18 and was well managed on Humira. Then in October 2025, at 29, my kidney function was shockingly at eGFR of 45 and Creat 1.7. No symptoms at all, just a routine PCP check. The first biopsy I had showed 44% sclerosis and small amounts of interstitial nephritis. The thought was maybe I had a drug reaction to the Humira so they stopped that and put me on steroids. Now fast-forward to earlier this month, my kidney function has dramatically decreased, GFR is now 19 and Creat 3.2. I had been off steroids for about a month and a half. I had another biopsy and it continued to show now 60 to 70% sclerosis and more interstitial nephritis. I’ve had every test under the sun and my team is still not sure what is causing my CKD. Just wondering how common it is to have an idiopathic diagnosis, especially if you have Crohn’s disease. Working on getting my transplant evaluation set up in case this progresses… For now I’m on a steroid burst.
