We eloped exactly a year before our upcoming wedding; our family doesn't know it yet.

Hey all,

My husband and I had a courthouse wedding, with just our kids, our MOH/Best Man & our photographer, exactly 1 year before our wedding. We have not told any family members, mostly since none of our parents can keep a surprise. We decided to have our courthouse wedding a year before the wedding to take some stress off our wedding day. I have ADHD and a chronic illness; stress is one of my triggers for flare-ups. We plan to tell everyone at our wedding; we're just having a hard time deciding how to announce. Our photographer will be putting together a little video/slideshow from our courthouse wedding that we can show at the wedding. We are still going to have a ceremony on our wedding day, but it will be a short one (like 30 minutes, from walking down the aisle to walking back up) to help preserve my energy. Should we announce it at the ceremony or wait until the reception? We want to allow our family (our parents specifically) to feel all of their feelings and take in the moment, so that they don't feel as hurt by us not including them in the courthouse wedding. If we do it at the reception, we are thinking of having the slideshow/video playing while we are having our first dance, and have the DJ announce it. (For our courthouse wedding, we didn't make it a huge deal--we got married (in the county over), took pictures at the courthouse, then drove to a local beach for other pictures to use for our engagement photos, then picked up food and went home and ate with our kids.) Another idea was to announce it during the speeches. The goal is for it to be a happy surprise, with the least amount of hurt feelings. Thanks in advance!
